 Turn-over ceremony of the P 1M at NEDA 13 Congressman Jose S. Aquino II of the First District of Agusan del Norte (Butuan City and Las Nieves) released on Friday, May 2, 2008 to the Mt. Mayapay Rehabilitation Task Force (MMRTF) an amount of P1 Million as its initial operationalization fund for the rehabilitation of Mt. Mayapay. The Mt. Mayapay Rehabilitation Project was conceptualized in 2005, in time with the implementation of the Green Philippine Program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The project is expected to showcase Mt. Mayapay as a model for eco-park development, where logging activities are strictly prohibited. The project will initially rehabilitate and develop portion of the military reservation area within Butuan City of approximately 375 hectares. |

The release of the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) results for 2006 is especially significant for Caraga Region. In 2003, the region earned the dubious distinction of being the poorest in the country. The FIES is widely seen as a precursor to the release of the poverty incidence statistics, hence its significance to us in the region. The FIES is a nationwide survey undertaken every three years and is a rider to the Labor Force Survey. As the name suggests, its primary output would be the determination of the total and average family income and expenditure for the country and its regions. |

Starting the year right, the Caraga Regional Development Council-Private Sector Representatives (RDC-PSRs) Forum had its first meeting for the year at the Conference Room of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office in Butuan City on January 17, 2008. PSRs occupy about one-fourth of the RDC seats and represent different private sectors of the region including the labor sector, women, farmers, disadvantaged groups and the business sector. |
