About 390 Butuan residents were able to avail of free services and giveaways from the City Government during the 1st Anniversary of the People’s Day on August 23, 2005 at the City Hall Grounds, Butuan City. The City Government, with its partner businessmen in Butuan were able to give out free medical check-up, free medicines, dental extraction, eye check-up and screening, free vegetable, fruit tree and forest species seedlings, animal vitamins and vaccination, local and foreign employment, pospas and milk feeding, mass civil weeding, hospitalization, financial assistance, pre-marriage seminars, guides to putting up businesses and library instruction. Companies from all over the city donated medicines and bread for snacks which were given directly to the people and rice, grocery items and give-aways which were all distributed through a raffle draw. The People’s Day with the Mayor was created to give people more access to the Mayor. Every Tuesday, people from all walks of life come to the City Hall and register at the Public Information Office, the implementer of the said program. Once the clients have completed their requirements, namely, their certificate of registration, cedula and barangay clearance, they are given a number on a first come, first serve basis. The clients will then have an audience with the Mayor and air to him their needs. The clients are then endorsed to the Chief of Office concerned with their needs, who are also present during the audience with the Mayor. In its one year of service to the people, the People’s Day with Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II has served almost 2,000 people.
